Asus ZenFone AR

The world’s first phone with Google Tango support, the Asus ZenFone AR has been launched in India at an event in New Delhi. It will be available exclusively on Flipkart priced at Rs. 49,999 for the black colour variant. The biggest highlights are the 8GB RAM, support for Google Tango augmented reality (AR) platform as well as the Google Daydream virtual reality (VR) platform.


Flipkart launch offers include Rs. 2500 discount on the Google Daydream View VR headset which costs Rs. 6,499 without discount. Reliance Jio offers up to 100GB additional data and a complimentary Prime Subscription. The data can be availed as additional 10GB data voucher per recharge of RS. 309 and above for 10 recharges until March 2018.

The smartphone also sports a “premium-crafted metallic diamond-cut” body, and bears a fingerprint sensor on the home button. In the box users will get the Asus ZenEar S earphones that support DTS Headphone:X and Hi-Res Audio.

Asus ZenFone AR specifications

The Asus ZenFone AR is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC (two cores clocked at 2.34GHz and two core clocked at 1.6GHz) that’s been optimised for Google Tango and Daydream VR performance, and is coupled with 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM. It has a 5.7-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection and 100 percent support for NTSC colour gamut.

The Asus ZenFone AR sports a 23MP rear camera with an f/2.0 aperture, 6P Largan lens, TriTech Focus System (dual-PDAF, laser autofocus, continuous autofocus), RGB sensor for colour correction, 4-axis OIS for photos, 3-axis EIS for videos, and RAW file support. The company claims the TriTech system can focus as fast as 0.03 seconds. On the front, it has an 8MP sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, a 85-degree wide-angle lens, and dual-LED flash. The front camera offers HDR and real-time beautification modes.

This smartphone has 128GB of UFS 2.0 internal storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB using MicroSD card in a hybrid dual-SIM configuration.

The Asus ZenFone AR will run ZenUI 3.0 based on Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. It is powered by a 3300mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support, the bundled 18W charger can provide 60 percent capacity in 18 mins. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.2, USB Type-C 2.0, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors onboard include accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, digital compass, gyroscope, infrared sensor, and proximity sensor.

Asus is also touting the five-magnet speaker, NXP amplifier, Hi-Res Audio support, DTS HD Premium sound, DTS Headphone:X 7.1 channel virtual surround sound, and dual-microphone active noise cancellation for better audio quality.
