After adding end-to-end encryption on WhatsApp messenger, now Facebook enabled the feature for it Facebook Messenger app as well.

This feature is not on by default, you will have to turn it on manually. This feature was rolled out from August itself, but now the company confirm that the feature is available for all of it 900 million users. The feature was first announced in July, and now it is available for all after beta tests.

How to use Facebook Messenger’s End-to-End Encryption?

In WhatsApp, end-to-end encryption is on by default, and there is no option to turn it off. But in Facebook all 900 million users will have it turn it on manually and user can turn it off if needed. Both the sender and receiver need to be using the latest version of the app to use this feature. If you are already using the latest version Messenger app, you can see a ‘Secret’ option in the top right corner of the new message screen.

This feature is available in both Android and iOS. Once you enable encryption, the app will show users the following notification, “Your messages are already secure, but Secret Conversations are encrypted from one device to another.” This encryption method is using the same encryption used on the Edward Snowden approved Signal app, developed by Open Whisper Systems.
