Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones were launched in order to compete with Apple iPhone X and Samsung Galaxy Note 8. This time Google decided to ditch the 3.5mm audio jack, which has given way to USB Type-C for both charging and music.

Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL price in India

In India the Google Pixel 2 with 64GB of storage will be priced at Rs. 61,000, and Rs. 70,000 for the 128GB variant. The prices in India of Pixel 2 XL for the 64GB and 128GB variants are Rs. 73,000 and Rs. 82,000, respectively. Both smartphones will be available from over 1,000 offline stores in the country, and it will be exclusively available online via Flipkart. Pre-orders will start from October 26, the Pixel 2 will go on sale from November 1 and Pixel 2 XL will be available from November 15.

In the US, prices start at $649 (roughly Rs. 42,235) for Pixel 2, and $849 (approximately Rs. 55,250) for Pixel 2 XL. The Pixel 2 will be available in ‘Just Black’, ‘Clearly White’, and ‘Kinda Blue’ colour variants, while the Pixel 2 XL will be available in ‘Just Black’ and ‘Black & White’ colour variants. In the US, buyers get the Google Home Mini for free bundled with the smartphones, for a limited period – no such offer was announced for India.

Google Pixel 2 specifications

The Pixel 2 features a 5-inch Cinematic 5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels,16:9 aspect ratio) AMOLED display at 441ppi, while the Pixel 2 XL features a 6-inch QHD+ (1440×2880 pixels, 18:9 aspect ratio) P-OLED at 538ppi with 18:9 ratio. Both smartphone have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 (2.5D on the former and 3D on the latter). The Pixel 2 outputs a 95 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut, and the latter a 100 percent DCI-P3 gamut. As they have OLED display, the Always-on Display tech is also present.

Both smartphones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC (four cores clocked at 2.35GHz and four cores clocked at 1.9GHz) and has 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM.

HTC U11’s EdgeSense technology have been ported to the Pixel 2 smartphones. It gives the smartphones a ‘squeezable frame’ that can activate Google Assistant whenever they feel like.

DxOMark has given the new camera on Pixel 2 a score of 98, which is the industry-best. Both smartphones have the same 12.2-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical and electronic image stabilisation. Front camera is 8-megapixel with an aperture of f/2.4. Google is promising unlimited online storage for photos and videos, with original quality storage until January 15, 2021.

The Pixel 2 smartphone comes with a 2700mAh battery and the larger Pixel 2 XL has a 3520mAh battery, both has support for fast charging, and promises up to 7 hours of charge with 15 minutes of charge. The Pixel 2 measures 145.7×69.7×7.8mm (and weighs 143 grams), while the Pixel 2 XL measures 157.9×76.7×7.9mm (and weighs 175 grams).

Connectivity options of both smartphones include 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac with 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth v5.0, USB Type-C (3.1), NFC, an eSIM module (for Project Fi use), as well as GPS/ A-GPS. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, but the smartphone ships with a 3.5mm to USB Type-C adaptor. Sensors include a fingerprint sensor on the rear panel, the Active Edge snesor, the smartphones feature an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and proximity sensor.
