Reliance Jio claim they have achieved a new world record by enrolling 16 million users in just 26 days under its ‘Welcome Offer’. If this is true, it is not only faster than any other telecom operators, but it is also faster than Facebook, WhatsApp and Skype.

Reliance Jio enrolls 16 million users in 26 days

Commenting on the achievement, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chairman Mr. Mukesh D. Ambani said, “We are delighted and humbled by the overwhelming response across India to the Jio Welcome Offer. Jio is built to empower every Indian with the power of data. We are delighted that people have recognized this and are utilizing our services to the fullest. We are customer-obsessed and committed to improve every day to exceed expectations of our customers.”

Jio make SIM activations faster, Jio introduced Aadhar-based online SIM activation. This method is now available in more than 3100 towns and cities. This allows customers to get the SIM activated within minutes. Users also doesn’t have to carry any photograph or other documents to get the SIM activated. All you need to do is to carry your Aadhar card to the Reliance Digital or mini-express retail shop, and give them your fingerprint. The company also plans to spread the process across the country within next few months.

Reliance Jio started their operation in December last year. The service was first available only for Reliance employees, and later they introduced the preview offer for LYF smartphone. Within few months, the company began to provide the same service for other smartphone brands like Samsung, LG, Asus and more.

The ‘Preview Offer’ gave users unlimited voice/video calls and unlimited access to Jio services like JioMovies, JioTV, JioMusic, JioCloud, JioMoney and JioMags. I used to get max speed up to 3.8MBps during the ‘Preview Offer’ and it now dropped below 700KB in the welcome offer. From September 5, the company migrated its existing users from ‘Preview Offer’ to ‘Welcome Offer’ and we are now getting pathetic Jio service. Under ‘Welcome Offer’ users will get only 4GB daily data, which doesn’t even meet 3G speeds. But users do get unlimited calls and unlimited SMS under this offer.

Every new and existing Jio user can continue this ‘Welcome Offer’ until December 31 and after that we will have to pay for the service. Now, we are not even able to load the speed test website due to slow speed of Jio, we will have to wait and see, if this issue exists even after January 1, 2017.
