Reliance Jio was launched and the 4G tariff plans were revealed by chairman Mukesh Ambani at the company’s annual shareholders’ meeting last week. Ambani also mentioned the company’s plan to bring a Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) wired network service called the Reliance Jio GigaFiber to select cites in India. The Reliance Jio FTTH network will offer speeds up to 1Gbps to its users. Now CTO of Hipcask, Arjun Hemrajani has hinted on social media that Reliance Jio has already started testing its FTTH network in some parts of Pune and Mumbai.
According to Arjun Hemrajani, he got his 100Mbps connection a few days ago with a 3-month free trial. He also tweeted the speed test results, which shows download/upload speeds of more than 90Mbps. He also shared the speed test results from Pune, means the Jio Fibre-to-the-Home is being tested in Pune as well. With speeds up to 1Gbps, the screenshot shows a download speed of 743.28Mbps, upload speed of 73.22Mbps. Ambani said the Jio FTTH network will be available in the top 100 cities in India. This wires broadband network will be available for residential spaces as well as enterprises. He noted that the multi-gigabyte connectivity will be at par with what is offered in other parts of the world.
Reliance Jio GigaFiber network is still in test stages, users can’t just go and subscribe to a new connection even if they live in Mumbai or Pune. The network is expected to launch by next year. Jio is getting ready to disrupt the wired network as well. It will be interesting to see how their plans will be.
