WhatsApp enable the Mentions Feature for Android and iOS. This feature work same as in Facebook and Twitter. User will have a type “@” sign in a group chat and it will automatically suggest a list of group members. This feature was rumored to arrive back in June and it is currently limited to group chats only.
It will be easier to mention or get attention of someone in the group using the Mentions Feature. To get this feature you must be running 2.16.259 and above in Android. This feature was first spotted by beta users, and now it is available for general users as well. If you are using iPhone, make sure the app version is 2.16.10 and above.
WhatsApp added lots of features like this in the recent months. One of the feature is the option to quote a message reply to it. This allows users to send reply to a single message by quoting it. To use this feature, user have to press and hold a message to reveal a ‘reply’ option near the star, delete, forward, and copy.
The company is also rumored to add bots to the app. WABetaInfo on Twitter pointed to WhatsApp’s new legal info that notes, “We will explore ways for you and businesses to communicate with each other using WhatsApp, such as through order, transaction, and appointment information, delivery and shipping notifications, product and service updates, and marketing.”
The page further clarifies, “you may receive flight status information for upcoming travel, a receipt for something you purchased, or a notification when a delivery will be made. Messages you may receive containing marketing could include an offer for something that might interest you. We do not want you to have a spamy experience; as with all of your messages, you can manage these communications, and we will honor the choices you make.”
