Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus smartphones were launched in China. Both variants have similar design, but different specifications. The main highlight of both smartphones is the use of an 18:9 display aspect ratio. Availability in other markets is not yet revealed by the company.
Xiaomi Redmi 5 price
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage will be available for CNY 799 (approx. Rs. 7,800), the 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant will be priced at CNY 899 (approx. Rs. 8,800). The Redmi 5 Plus variant with 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage variant will be priced at CNY 999 (approx. Rs. 9,700) and the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant has a price tag of CNY 1,299 (approx. Rs. 12,700).
All variants will go on sale from December 12, and the registrations will start soon. Xiaomi says the smartphones will come with a free TPU protection case in the box. Both smartphones will be available in Black, Gold, Light Blue, and Rose Gold colour variants.
Redmi 5, Redmi 5 Plus specifications
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 450 SoC clocked at up to 1.8GHz. It has a 5.7-inch HD+ (720×1440 pixels) 18:9 display with a 282ppi pixel density and a 72 percent NTSC colour gamut. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at up 2GHz. It has a 5.99-inch full-HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) 18:9 display with a 403ppi pixel density and an 84 percent NTSC colour gamut. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 will be available in 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage or 3GB RAM/32GB storage options, and the Redmi 5 Plus will be available in 3GB RAM/32GB storage or 4GB RAM/64GB storage. Both smartphone have support for storage expansion using a MicroSD card.
Both smartphones have the same camera setup. Both has a 12MP rear camera with a 1.25-micron pixel sensor, an f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and flash, they also sport a 5MP front camera with a soft-light selfie flash module.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is a dual-SIM (Nano-SIM) smartphone running MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat 7.1 out of the box. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB. They both feature accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, and proximity sensor. The Redmi 5 bears a 3300mAh battery, while the Redmi 5 Plus bears a 4000mAh battery. The former measures 151.8×72.8×7.7mm and weighs 157 grams, while the latter measures 158.5×75.45×8.05mm and weighs 180 grams.
