Xiaomi launched the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus smartphones in the Beijing event. Both smartphones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 SoC. Both phones have metal build and the larger Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus comes with a dual rear camera setup Just like the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. All models will be available in Gold, Rose Gold, Silver, and White color variants. Both the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus will go on sale from Thursday via flash sales on JD.com and Mi.com.
Xiaomi Mi 5s
The Xiaomi Mi 5s with 3GB RAM/ 64GB storage is priced at CNY 1,999 (approx. Rs. 20,000) and the 4GB RAM/ 128GB storage is priced at CNY 2,299 (approx. Rs. 22,900). The Xiaomi Mi 5s comes with a 5.15-inch full HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with NTSC 95 percent color gamut, 1500:1 contrast ratio, and a brightness of 600 nits. The Xiaomi Mi 5s has a large 1/2.3-inch 12MP sensor using the Sony IMX 378 sensor with f/2.0 aperture. It has a 4MP camera on the front with 2 micron pixels and f/2.0 aperture.
The Xiaomi Mi 5s is powered by a Snapdragon 821 SoC clocked at 2.15GHz and the Mi 5s Plus has the same SoC clocked at 2.35GHz. The Mi 5s has an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on its home button. The sensor is placed under glass, and according to the company it will not get damaged with use. This sensor will give same level of accuracy and speed just like a regular fingerprint sensor. It is powered by a 3200mAh battery, that charges via Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0.
Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus
The Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage is priced at CNY 2,299 (approx. Rs. 22,900) and the 6GB RAM/ 128GB storage is priced at CNY 2,599 (approx. Rs. 26,000). The Mi 5s Plus will have a pressure sensitive 5.7-inch full HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with NTSC 94 percent color gamut and a brightness of 550 nits. The Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus has dual rear camera setup with two 13MP sensors – one for colour, and the other for black and white. The front camera is 4MP, same as the Mi 5s. This camera setup gathers much more light producing more detailed images with less noise.
The Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus is also powered by a Snapdragon 821 SoC, but clocked at 2.35GHz. The Mi 5s Plus has fingerprint scanner on the rear panel, below the dual camera module. It is powered by a 3800mAh battery, that charges via Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0.
Both handsets have support for 4G LTE with support for 3xCA network connectivity, NFC, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.2, and GPS/ A-GPS. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, barometer, and magnetometer.
