Xiaomi Mi A1

Xiaomi has started rolling out Android 8.0 update for the Mi A1 smartphone. The Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched under Google’s Android One program with Android 7.1.2 Nougat back in September. At the time of launch, the company promised Android Oreo update by the end of 2017. The new update will be rolling out as a progressive over-the-air (OTA) update on December 31.

In order to receive the Android Oreo (version 7.12.29) update, the user should be running software version 7.12.19 (Android Nougat) on their Mi A1. The Oreo update comes with a size of 1107.4MB and it also includes December security patch alongside other features.

New features like Picture-in-Picture mode, new notification dots, Background limits, Auto-fill, and Smart text selection will be available with the update. You can check the availability of the Android 8.0 Oreo update for your Mi A1 by going to Settings > Software updates. With the Android Oreo update, the Xiaomi Mi A1 has become even more attractive at the under 15000 price segment.

Xiaomi Mi A1 Specifications

The Xiaomi Mi A1 smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM. It has a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass. There is 64GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB using a MicroSD card.

It has a dual-rear camera setup using two 12MP sensors, with one featuring a wide-angle lens with a 1.25-micron pixel sensor and f/2.2 aperture, and the other sporting a telephoto lens, 1-micron pixel sensor, an f/2.6 aperture, and capable of delivering 2x optical zoom. Front camera is 5MP with a real-time beatification mode.

The Mi A1 is a hybrid dual-SIM smartphone running Android 7.1.2 out of the box. It has a 3080mAh battery, measures 155.4×75.8×7.3mm, and weighs 168 grams. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone jack. Sensors on board the Xiaomi Mi A1 include an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, infrared, magnetometer, and proximity sensor. Xiaomi is also touting several audio enhancements, such as the inclusion of a 10V smart power amplifier, DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm, and support for high impedance headphones.
