With the launch of Xiaomi Redmi Pro, the company also announced their first notebook. The Mi Notebook Air will be 13% thinner and 11% smaller than the MacBook Air and will weight just 1.28Kg.
Mi Notebook Air 13.3 specifications
The 13.3 inch display has a rated 800:1 contrast ratio as well as 72% NTSC color gamut (vs 50% on the 12.5” model). Mi Notebook Air 13.3 will be powered by a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5-6200U (Turbo up to 2.7GHz) with Nvidia Geforce 940MX GPU with 1 GB GDDR5 memory. The standalone graphic processor in this device will make it more powerful in Games. There will be 8GB DDR4-2133 RAM and 256 GB NVMe SSD with PCIe 3.0 x4 interface (with up to 1500 MB/s read speed, which means that they are running the PCH in low-power mode and reduce PCIe clock-rates), and there will be a factory expandable SATA SSD slot and 802.11AC Wi-Fi.
Other features are Bluetooth v4.1, 1MP camera on the front, two microphones custom AKG speakers and so on. The battery is built in a 40 Wh battery (compared to 37 Wh on the smaller model), which will provide up to 9.5 hours of backup according to Xiaomi. This notebook will take just 30 minutes to charge from 0% to 50%. The 13-inch version measures 309.6mm x 210.9mm x 14.8mm (12.18″ × 8.3″ × 0.58″) and weighs 2.82 pounds (1.28kg). Mi Notebook Air looks exactly like the MacBook Air, but Xiaomi can’t replicate the Mac OS. This notebook will be bundled with Windows 10 home edition out of the box. Mi Notebook Air 13.3 will be priced at RMB 4999 (Rs.50000/-).
Mi Notebook Air 12.5 specifications
This 12.5 inch notebook comes with a Full HD screen, 170° wide viewing angle, 300 nit brightness as well as 600:1 contrast ratio. The Mi Notebook Air 12.5 will be just 12.9mm thin with full metal body and will weight only 1.07Kg. Mi Notebook Air 12.5 will be powered by a deal core Intel Core M3-6Y30 processor featuring the Skylake micro architecture as well as the ninth-generation of Intel’s integrated graphics (Gen 9, HD Graphics 515 with 24 EUs). The CPU is rated at a 1.1/2.2 GHz core frequency (base/turbo), 4 MB of last level cache, and a 7W thermal design power (normally this CPU is rated at 4.5W, but the 1.1 GHz in the spec sheet implies that it is running in its 7W cTDP Up mode – this isn’t a surprise given the size of the device.

Mi Notebook Air 12.5 has low memory and processing power, but it claims to have 11.5 hours of battery backup. This 12.5 inch notebook weighs 1.07kg, measures 292 x 202 x 12.9mm (11.5″ × 7.95″ × 0.51″). Mi Notebook Air 12.5 will be priced at RMB 3499 (Rs.35000/-).
Both devices will have one USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. There will be 2 USB 3.0 Type A ports, one HDMI port, and one 3.5mm headphone jack. Both devices will have aluminium body which comes with gold and silver colour options. There is also backlit keyboard on both devices. Manufacturing duties for the Mi Notebook Air are handled by Inventec and Wistron. The outside is absolutely devoid of logos, while the inside follows the MacBook layout pretty closely other than the body-colored keyboard.
Xiaomi usually make money with the Apps and services in MIUI Android ROM. But there will not be any such apps and services in Windows 10. There will be a “Mi Sync” software, which will sync data with MIUI handsets, if you own one. The laptop can also be paired with Mi Band, which will automatically unlock the notebook if the wearer is near, just like Apple watch does.
The Mi Notebook Air will start to ship in China on August 2. Company didn’t say a word about international release, we may see a wider release soon.
